Strategy to Maximise Incoming Productions for the City of Selkirk

In November 2021, SPI was commissioned by the City of Selkirk in Manitoba, Canada, to research and present a strategy to maximise its future production levels.

Situated within 45 minutes of the province’s main production hub of Winnipeg, Selkirk has steadily attracted film and television productions that leverage the best of both locations. The City’s aim is to be proactive about investing in the sector’s growth potential.

SPI’s study identified a range of opportunities for the city to leverage its already strong foundation, including its film friendliness, unique locations in close proximity to Winnipeg and producer access to a 5% bonus that is built into the province’s competitive Film and Video Production Tax Credit.

The report's key recommendations were for the City to build upon its foundation and aim to establish itself as a 2nd level production hub over the next five years, with Winnipeg remaining the 1st level production hub in the province.
