On the 23rd of September, OlsbergSPI (SPI)’s study on the international performance of Dutch feature films was presented at the Netherlands Film Festival. Commissioned by the Netherland Film Fund, the independent study sought to understand why Dutch films are not reaching their highest performance potential.

The study was divided into two phases. First, SPI undertook a quantitative evaluation benchmarking on the artistic and market performance of Dutch films compared to four comparative European markets – namely, Austria, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. Second, SPI undertook an in-depth qualitative assessment of the underlying factors determining the films’ performances in the benchmarked markets.

The report delivers objective and independent analysis sourced from publicly available data, as well as insights from private consultations with industry stakeholders.
