SPI Announces New Economic Impact Study of International Shoots in Spain at the San Sebastián International Film Festival

During an expert roundtable at the 71st San Sebastián International Film Festival, Olsberg•SPI (SPI)’s Managing Director Leon Forde announced SPI’s latest economic impact study (EIS). Read Variety’s coverage here.

Commissioned by the Spain Film Commission, the EIS will be the first ever in-depth study on the economic impact of international shoots in Spain.

The report will focus on international productions that receive or apply for tax incentives in Spain.

Profilm, Spain’s association of line producers, will also participate in the study, with its members supplying data for the report.

This study is being commissioned as Spain continues to invest heavily in its audiovisual production sector. In March 2021, Spanish president Pedro Sánchez announced the Spain AVS Hub plan, designed to invest €1.6 billion ($1.8 billion) into the country’s audiovisual sector, through a mix of tax credits and fiscal facilities. Earlier this year, the Spanish government announced there would be further investment into the Spain AVS Hub.

SPI will announce further information on the study as it commences.
