The State of the UK Independent Film Sector

Cinema sign. Project on The State of the UK Film Sector by Olsberg Spi.

Client: Pact

Location: UK-wide

The UK’s strength as a hub for inward investment has grown since 2007, with 2016 expenditure on making films in the UK reaching its highest level since records began, at £1.6 billion. However, the UK’s independent sector has operated in an increasingly challenging landscape.

This landmark report, commissioned by UK producers body Pact, provides a detailed evidence base in relation to the changes that have occurred in the independent film landscape from 2005 to 2017. This includes a consideration of structural shifts, such as a decline in rights value, and those which are cyclical, such as uncertainty around digital models.
