Potential Impact of Video Games Incentive in Croatia

Client: Croatian Game Development Alliance

Location: Croatia

Commissioned by the Croatian Game Development Alliance, SPI conducted a feasibility study for a new video game development incentive in Croatia, and advise on its potential economic impact. The resulting study found that in 2022, the Croatian video game development sector contributed €49.59 million (£42.64 million) in total Gross Value Added (GVA) to the Croatian economy, and supported approximately 1,140 full-time equivalent (FTE) workers.

SPI’s projections show that introducing a national video game development incentive in 2024 could significantly boost the economy, generating an additional €99.3 million in GVA between 2025 and 2029, and supporting an additional 450 FTE workers per year on average over the same period.

The Study launched at the Reboot Infogamer gaming fair in Zagreb in November 2024, with SPI Senior Research Analyst Joe Stirling Lee participating in a presentation panel, alongside Krešimir Partl, state secretary of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, and Aleksandar Gavrilović, general secretary of CGDA.
