UK Crew Mapping and Skills Forecasting Study

Client: British Film Institute (BFI)

Location: UK

Commissioned by the British Film Institute, SPI created a new methodology for mapping crew, and trialling a skills forecasting service in the UK. As part of this Study, SPI worked with Creative Wales, looking at the whole nation, and Create Central, where the Study examined the West Midlands production cluster.

This was an important Study in the UK production landscape, where significant growth in film and high-end television (HETV) production led to serious shortages of skills. The project was also of strategic importance, responding directly to recommendations in the recent BFI Skills Review commissioned by the DCMS. The Review also contributed to the development of the BFI’s new 10-year National Lottery funding strategy.
