In 2024, SPI published an updated and expanded version of their 2019 publication, Best Practice in Screen Sector Development

The original 2019 study was the first of its kind to provide a global analysis of governments' strategies, policies, and other interventions to maximise their share of the screen production market.

The updated 2024 edition features expanded analysis, insights and case studies into the global screen sector’s evolving landscape, across seven research areas:

  1. Production incentives

  2. Workforce capacity

  3. Infrastructure

  4. Film-friendliness

  5. Diversity, equity and inclusion

  6. Sustainability

  7. Partner engagement.

Nineteen detailed case studies are included in the full report to illustrate real-world strategies that have achieved success, including the BAFTA albert initiative in the UK, the Indigenous Screen Office in Canada and Screen Queensland Studios: Cairns in Queensland, Australia.

The key findings of the report have been published as a high-level summary document. This document is available in 11 languages, including Arabic, Bahasa Indonesian, English, French, Korean, Japanese, Malay, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai.

The full report and translated editions of the key findings summary report can be found here
